Meet the Huitema Family
Cindy and Nick Huitema have been producing eggs for more than 45 years and are the fourth generation on their family farm. The Huitemas have four children – Stephanie (21), Nicole (20), Charlotte (17) and John (15). They all pitch in with gathering eggs, helping to clean the barns and other chores.

Nick also partners with his brother to raise hogs and runs a custom manure spreading business.

Nick is vice-president of the Haldimand Federation of Agriculture and a member of the Haldimand Agricultural Advisory Committee. Cindy plays the organ at church, is an active 4-H leader and volunteers at fairs and local events to promote eggs with cooking demonstrations and egg information presentations and displays. Cindy also belongs to the Grand Smockers’ Guild in Cayuga, Ontario, part of the Ontario Network of Needleworkers, a group devoted to preserving and encouraging the art of fine needlework.

The whole family volunteers at the Canadian National Exhibition and the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair to promote eggs and educate the public about egg farming.

Stephanie Huitema is also a member of Team Burnbrae, an initiative of Burnbrae Farms to involve young members of the egg industry to tell farming stories through video. You can also see Stephanie’s work on the Burnbrae Farms YouTube channel.

The Huitema’s care for their birds with integrity and compassion and are proud that consumers in Canada have a broad spectrum of choices when it comes to their egg purchases. “We are a family business and appreciate that our children learn responsibility, a strong work ethic and healthy food choices.”
