Eggs and the Environment
Farmers are the original stewards of the environment, with many maintaining tracts of wood lands on their properties to provide wildlife corridors. Our egg farmers make management decisions every day that protect the environment for future generations to enjoy.

Eggs have one of the lowest carbon footprints of any animal production farm. While different layer hen housing systems have slightly different environmental footprints, in general, hens housed in conventional cages produce eggs with the lowest carbon impact.

Hen houses are cleaned frequently and kept free of manure. Hen manure is a farm product that is managed under a strict Nutrient Management Plan, mandated by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in Ontario and by other plans in other provinces. The plan, which is individual to each farm, outlines how all nutrients generated and used on farm are handled in a beneficial, environmentally sensitive way.
